| The Endangered Animals of the World An international research project, hosted by: Joan Goble and René de Vries URL's TENAN project: Email TENAN: animals@tip.nl ======================================== NEWSLETTER - Volume 15 - November, 1998 ======================================== Dear Participants, Hello everyone - welcome to our project! Once again we want to say how happy we are that you have joined TENAN: The ENdangered Animals of the World, an international research project - and we hope that all is going well with your research. We hope that you have time to check out the whole website of TENAN. We will be updating the pages often, adding items and information. If any of you have any suggestions, please email us at animals@tip.nl and we will be happy to consider them. We have several items to tell you about... First, we have several new participants! We have so many new new participants in fact,
that we really can't list them here because it would bog down your email box! So, instead
of listing them here, we invite you to take a look at our Participants List page at: Next, we have our new project up and running! It is called TESAN: The Endangered Species and Nature of the World. See it at http://www.tesan.vuurwerk.nl - we would like to invite your students to join this project as well. The project asks students to research an endangered plant and/or nature area, preserve, national park, state park, or local park, as long as it deals with the preservation and protection of endangered species. It is a great way for your students to make a real life connection and perhaps contribute or help the species they have reported on in a real life way. An example of this would be...if your students were reporting on an endangered animal and there is a nature park or preserve locally that has those same animals the students could report on the park and on the status of that animal in the park...then add to the report any information on how the public can help protect that animal. Maybe the students could even report on any active involvement they have had to help...such as doing a study on the impact of pollutants in the area or taking a survey of people's opinions...there are many ways students can take an active role - if you have any great ideas to this effect and would like to share them with other participants, you may do so b sending your ideas to animals@tip.nl and we will post your idea on our site (giving credit to you of course) and also in our next newsletter. ;-) We have two new reports to tell you about... African Elephant, made by students of Eversdal School, South Africa Mountain Lion, made by students of Glen Yermo Elementary, USA Our site is also going to expand some...first we are updating our Links page...check it out for new sites on endangered animals. Also we are adding a page of comments by our participants and other visitors to our site. We have received several nice emails and we want to share them with you and visitors to our site. This page will be added very soon. **** Have a look at the list of published reports on: This school year we plan on having some Global Chats, just as we did last year. We will send out an invitation to all of you just as soon as a date has been set for it. We hope these chats will be as great or better than last year! If you would like to see excerpts from last school year's chats, simply go to: http://www.tenan.vuurwerk.nl/meeting.htm Well, that is all for now...we hope that all is going well with your research and if you need any help or advice on any of your project just let us know. Sincerely, René de Vries and Joan Goble Email us at: animals@tip.nl
