How the Bobcat Got Her
Short Tail

A long, long, time ago the bobcat had a very long tail. It was longer than her body. A bobcat named Tawnyee had a very beautiful tail. She had three cubs that were always hungry. Tawnyee found her tail was great for catching fish.

One day Onu-cha-cha, an Indian brave, was fishing in the Kings River. Onu-cha-cha caught ten spotted trout. The Bobcat was hiding in a huge old Oak tree. She saw Onu-cha-cha's fish. She jumped out of the old Oak tree and hit Onu-cha-cha with her tail. He fell into the cold water. The Bobcat grabbed the fish and started to run away. Onu-cha-cha was really mad. He jumped out of the water, grabbed his bow and arrow, and shot at the bobcat. Onu-cha-cha shot the long tail right off the Bobcat. This is how the bobcat lost her tail.

The Bobcat got mad at Onu-cha-cha and took his fish. Then the Bobcat went home to her cubs and fed the fish to her cubs. They lived happily ever after, but they never had long tails again.
