| Indiana Bat / vleermuis | Common name: Indiana Bat Scientific name: Myotis sodalis Group: Mammal Status: Endangered since 1967 Description: The Indiana Bat is grey or light brown in color. It is 41-49mm long (medium sized) and it weighs between 6-9 grams. Habitat: It hibernates (sleeps for the winter) in cool caves and it roosts in the summer in woodland areas It hibernates from about October to April, it migrates
then to summer roots. Food: It eats insects and primarily feeds at night Reproduction: one single young at one time, each year or season. The mother takes care of the young Threats to the Indiana bat: Protection: One protection is the law called the Lacey Law which says that it is against the law to disturb any wildlife...including the bats. It is against the law to have anything to do with them alive or dead, or their habitat. |
