Orangutan
Borneo orangutan

My animal report is on the orangutan. They are large, hairy, with long arms that they use to swing from tree to tree. The female is 2.6 feet tall, weighing 110 pounds, the male, 3.2 feet tall, 198 pounds. It lives in the wet lands and the forest of Borneo, in Indonesia, and they spend most of their time in the trees.
Their main diet is leaves, tree bark, flowers, nuts, insects, small animals, and sometimes steal fruit off the trees owned by local people. The mothers carry their babies for 260 days before they are born. Their lifespan is about 50 years, and they mature 7 to 10 years before reproduction.
They are getting endangered because of habitat loss by either human action or natural disasters. Some are killed by humans illegally hunting them. Zoos and sanctuaries are saving the lives of many orangutans today, and laws against poaching and hunting protect them as well.
