Bush Dog

Bush Dog

Its common name is Bush Dog and its scientific name is Speothos venaticus. It is a carnivore mammal . Its habitat is the jungle in Panama, Venezuela and Colombia and the northeastern part of Argentina.
It looks like a small fox with short legs. Its body is 85 cm long and it weighs between 5 and 7 kilograms. Its fur is red and yellow.
It feeds on small vertebrates but it also hunts in the water, catching fish and tapirs. It usually lives to be 49 years old. The number of species, which can be found in the wild, is of 1839. 
The female has from three to six pups after a gestation period of 80 days.
They are in danger because the place where they live is the subtropical jungle and it is being destroyed.
The bush dog is the most sociable of all the canids, it lives in groups of up to 10 individuals. It uses high pitched beeps to locate pack members in the forest.
