Other Common Names: Bat, Hoary, Hoary Bat, Hawaiian Bat, and the Ancient Hawaiian name 'ope 'ape 'a.

What is the animal's habitat? Terrestrial, Inland Aquatic, Coastal

Where is the animal's habitat? The Hawaiian Islands

Animal's description: A flying crepuscular/nocturnal mammal. Generally small at 12 to 20 g and the color tends to be reddish with the frosted appearance not well marked, or absent.

Food: Arthropods. Has been suspected of taking insects on the wing. Beetles are the most abundant.

Reproduction: Breeding period is between September through December.

What threatens the life of the animal? Man-made structures and man caused conditions such as barbed wire fences, wood-cutting, and grazing.

What type of protection is made for them? The Lacey Act
