What is this animal's habitat - describe please
desert habitats such as the Sahara

Where is this animal's habitat? 
Around Ethiopia and Samalia in Africa

What is the range of this animal's habitat?
From Eritrea ,through Ethiopia, and to Somalia

Describe your animal 
The ass looks like the donkeys we have here in America, but they are gray with black stripes on their legs.

What is the number known to exist of your animal?
Around 200-300

What is the average lifespan of your animal?
15-30 years

What is the primary and secondary food of your animal?
They eat the thorny and tough plants that grow in the deserts and salty grass.

Information on reproduction 
They have about one or two foals a year.

What threatens the life of this animal? 
The local people hunt them for food. Local people keep sheep, camels, and other grazing animals that eat the same sorts of food the wild asses eat.

If your animal migrates, what is the migration route?
It stays in the same location.

Are there any unusual or little known facts about your animal?
They can handle hot weather, up to 135 degrees and down to -60 degrees below zero.

Are there any stories, songs, or poems about your animal?
It is said that domestic donkeys here in America were bred from wild asses over 5,000 years ago.

What has been done to protect your animal? 
Patricia Moehlman and the Equid Specialist Group are working to protect this interesting species by educating local people about the wild ass.

Are there any current issues or controversies happening in your area concerning your animal?
No.

What other ideas or programs would you like to see in your area to help protect the endangered animals? 
We should start a fund raiser right here in Decatur to help save the African Wild Ass and other endangered animals. This animal does not deserve to be wiped off the earth like several other animals.
