Spectacled Bear
| Have you ever seen a spectacled bear? It's Latin name is Tremarcos ornatur. The adult bear is 5 to 6 feet tall. It eats plants, berries, grass, orchid buds, and loves fruits. It is seen in the mountains in South America. The spectacled bear is black, brown and white around it's eye. The spectacled bear is endangered. This is because people in South America are moving into it's home. Some of them are in zoos and they can't have as many babies. We can't want this animal to become extinct because it was here way before we were. Despite laws to protect it, the spectacled bear is being killed for its meat and for body parts, which are used in some medicines. More national parks are needed to make sure the spectacled bear survives. There is a lot you may not know about the spectacled bear. The spectacled bear the only bear in South America. Its good at climbing and also pretty. Not many spectacled bears are left in the world. It likes to make its home in the cloud forests. There they sit so high in the mountains that they are actually in the clouds! |
