Flamingo

What is a Flamingo? A Flamingo is a pink and red bird. It's latin name is Phoenicopterus ruber. The family group is birds. It's natural habitats are lagoons, lakes or where there is lots of mud or water. The flamingo size is as tall as a first grader or a adult. Flamingos live in Europe, Asia and Africa. Flamingos are pink and red birds. Flamingos eat seeds, blue green algae, crustaceans and mollusks.

Flamingos are endangered because flamingo populations could become smaller since they live in habitats that could easily become polluted. People also destroy their habitats.

Do you know why we do not want this animal to become extinct from our planet? Well, if flamingos were extinct from our planet we could not see them. Since they are so beautiful we want to see them!

There is more to know about flamingos. There are five different species of flamingos. They are the Greater flamingos, Andline, Chealean, Lesser flamingo and the James. Flamingos do not make their nest every year. They use it over again. The parents will only care for their own chicks. When it is about 4 to 7 days old, the chick will fledge.
