Monarch Butterfly
| Have you every seen a Monarch Butterfly? Well I have. It's Latin name is danus plexipus. The family group is danaus. It lives in the tundra and rain forests. You can find it in the United States. It has a wing span of 3 ˝ inches. It's color is black and orange. And it eats milkweed. Those are some things to know about my animal. Here are some reasons why this animal is endangered. It's habitats are going down. And also, they're just dying out. People are just killing them. That is why they are endangered. Here are some other interesting things about this animal. A monarch can fly 100 miles in a day! And 12 miles in an hour! They fly south and stay there for the winter. Migratory groups meet at the same places each winter, such as Pacific Grove, California, or the mountains in central Mexico, where the trees may be completely covered with monarchs. In spring they will make the long journey back north, and lay eggs along the way. Then these eggs hatch into caterpillars. Those were some other things to know. |
