Chimpanzees
The chimpanzees are a kind of great ape. Chimpanzees are furry, black, and have white patches near their rump. Their face is usually bare. Their noses, hands, feet, and ears are light flesh. A ridge bone is around their forehead. They have no tail. They weigh 95 to 120 pounds. Mostly they live in Western and Central Africa. Some live in warm, rainy forests. Others live in low forests that are dense or wet. Some live in mountains up to 9,000 feet over the level of the sea. Chimpanzees eat plants, animal food, but mostly fruit, flowers, other plant parts, and insects. A baby chimpanzee weighs four pounds at birth. |
