A Crocodile's Life
Did you know that a big male can weigh over a ton, 2,000 pounds? They are long, and they have flat jaws, stubby legs with webbed feet. It’s body and tail are long. 20 feet of them are covered with leafy scales. Out of all the reptiles the snake , lizards, turtle alligators, and crocodiles the biggest is the saltwater crocodile. A saltwater crocodile can have up to 55 babies at a time. The babies come out of the mothers stomach as eggs, and the mother will eat anything that comes near her babies. A saltwater crocodile eats turtles, pigs, mud crabs, water birds, wallabies and other things. Between 1946 and 1972 saltwater crocodiles were hunted for their skins and meat. Saltwater crocodiles are raised and killed by farmers so that the wild ones are not killed. A saltwater crocodile lives in rivers, swamps, ponds, and saltwater places. They can walk on land and swim in water. They can live to 90 or 100 years old. |
