Elephants

Did you know elephants eat four to five hundred pounds of grass, leaves, fruit and tree bark a day and drink 30 gallons of water and can hold a gallon and a half in their trunk? 100,000 elephants a year are killed for their tusks. They people who kill them are called poachers. This is why they are endangered. There are just two kinds of elephants, African and Indian. Only the Indian elephant can be trained. Elephants live longer in reserves and are safe from poachers. They are gray and brown and have a large trunk, big ears, strong legs and are the biggest land mammal. They can weigh from 5 to 7 tons.
