Jaguars

Did you know that the jaguars have the shortest legs of all the wild
cats? The jaguar is a very, very, beautiful cat. The jaguar has a very strong body. It’s cousin is the leopard. The jaguar blends in with trees very well because of it’s coloring. The jaguar is a member of the wild cat family.
There are eight different kinds of jaguars, but three are extinct. All
jaguars have small black dots on their orange fur. Their teeth are very, very, big. Their whiskers are very long. The jaguar has a very big mouth. The jaguar looks very fierce. Only great cats can have a big roar.
In a zoo, a jaguar can live about 25 years. They live to 15 years old in the wild. They have three to four babies and it takes 3-4 months for the female to give birth. Jaguars move with their own feet. They’re very good jumpers. The jaguar eats deer, capybaras, mice and turtles. Jaguars mate in March and September. The jaguar drinks its mother’s milk. The baby jaguar weighs about 3 pounds. The jaguar lives in the rain forest. They have green grass and trees all around them. The number of jaguars is going down. Some people are cutting down trees in the rain forest. Some people are burning the whole rain forest down to make farms. The jaguars are forced to move. Belize has a large park called Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Preserve. The jaguar now needs a safe place to live. I like jaguars because they are beautiful.
