Koalas
Did you know that koalas sleep eleven hours a day? Koalas are very quiet. Koalas eat lots of leaves so they don’t have much water. Did you know that koalas are not bears they’re marsupials. because marsupials have pockets , like a kangaroo. They’re monkey bears because they so from tree to tree. Koalas are black black, white, pink and yellow. They look like a bear but they aren’t. Many koalas don’t have pockets. Also they look very furry. Koalas live in South Australia. Did you know that koalas sleep where they eat. They live in a forest of eucalyptus trees. Koalas only eat a certain leaf. That is a leaf from a eucalyptus tree. In the summer the females roar to find a male. Once it is not summer koalas like to be alone. Koalas climb trees to get its food. A baby koala is called a joey. After five weeks a joey is born. A baby joey is small as a bee. When a joey is born it can’t see, can’t hear and has no hair. A joey has five fingers. It stays in the mother’s pouch for thirty five days. Koalas only have one joey and it is rarely twins. Koalas live twenty years. Koalas are in danger because they would be turned into coats. There are very little eucalyptus trees so there are fewer koalas. Trees were falling down so koalas couldn’t live there any more. Koalas are getting hurt by house pets like cats. Forest fires are burning the trees. Also koalas are getting run over by cars. This is why they have become endangered. |
