Koalas
A koala is a marsupial. This means that the mother has a pouch. They have soft thick fur and they have gray hair and they look like bears, but they are not. They live in Australia and they eat eucalyptus tree leaves and bark. The babies sit in the mother’s pouch for 6 months, then for another 6 months the baby clings to her back. Their enemies are dingoes and goanna lizards. People wanted koala fur in the 1920’s. They almost went extinct. Now people take care of eucalyptus trees and the koala is protected by the law. |
