Koalas


The word koala means “no drink.”
They sleep up to 18 hours a day. 
Koalas are nocturnal and they have 2 thumbs. 
Koalas are endangered because of fires and hunting. 
The koala is not in the bear family. It is a marsupial. 
The koala lives in Australia and in trees. 
Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves. 
The koala has a pocket of skin. It has little eyes and a big nose, Koalas have sharp claws and their fur is gray. It has warm fur, too.
The boy koala roars at the mate to communicate. 
Baby koalas are born from their mother and get carried in their mother’s pocket. The baby koala is not born until after five weeks after parents meet. 
The baby koala is called a joey and a joey is the size of a bee. A joey has no hair and it can’t see or hear yet. 
The koala’s predators are dogs, cars, fires, pets, and bears.
