Blue Whales
Did you know that blue whales make moans and clicks that travel a long distance underwater? They migrate from polar waters to tropical waters. They are mammals. Blue whales are light gray-blue colored. Some are marked with spots or stripes. The bottom part of their body is white or light blue. They live in waters all around the world. But a different kind is found in the Indian ocean. These don’t migrate. Blue whales prey on copepods and krill. A baby is called a calf. A calf needs its mother for its first year of life. Blue whales’ predators are killer whales and sharks but most of all, man. They are endangered because man has killed so many. We’re already helping because the hunting laws protect them. We can help by obeying the hunting laws. |
