Parrot
Norfolk Island Parrot
Drawn by Erin and Alix 4D

Common Name : Norfolk Island Parrot

Scientific Name : Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae cookii

Habitat :
Rainforest of Norfolk Island.

Diet :
Eats seeds and berries of native plants.

Size :
It is about 300mm long.

Danger :

The cutting down of trees was the main problem and then came Crimson Rosellas, rats and cats. The Crimson Rosellas fight with the parrots and now the people catch and remove the Crimson Rosellas from the National Park.
By 1982 there were less than 20 birds left and the breeding programs were not successful. However, removing the Crimson Rosella has meant that the parrot numbers have been increasing and now there are thought to be 30 or 40 of them.
