Common Name : Heath Rat

Scientific Name : Pseudomys shortridgei

Habitat :
Lives in temperate coastal headlands of Western Australia and the Grampians of Victoria.

Diet :
Eats seeds, berries and flowers mostly but in Winter eats underground fungi.

Size :
Grows to about 230mm and the tail is 110mm of this.

Danger :

Farmers who removed the heathland cut down the areas where this rat could live.
Changes in the patterns of fires have reduced the areas of newly burnt regrowth on which it likes to feed.
