organised by Cannelton Elementary School in Indiana, USA
and Primary School De Wadden of Haarlem, Netherlands.

Common Name : Rufous Hare Wallaby

Scientific Name : Lagorchestes hirsutus

Habitat :
Lives in grasslands on sand plains of islands off the coast of Western Australia.

Diet :
Eats small succulent shrubs, native grasses and seed heads and also some insects.

Size :
Grows to about 650mm and can weigh up to 2kgs.

Danger :

Foxes and large wildfires wiped out this wallaby from the mainland.
There are no foxes on the islands where it now lives.
When scientists tried to release the Rufous Hare Wallaby back onto the mainland the feral cats and foxes chased and caught them.
