Common Name : Western Ground Parrot

Scientific Name : Pezoporus wallicus flaviventris

Habitat :
Coastal heaths and sedge swamps of south west Western Australia.

Diet :
Eats sedge seeds from sedgelands that have been recently burnt.

Size :
It is about 320mm long with the tail being about half of this and weighs about 85 grams.

Danger :

The coastal areas where these birds like to live is prime real estate for housing and is being built on. There is a change in the fire patterns that means there is not always the right sort of sedge seeds growing.
