Common Name : Gouldian Finch

Scientific Name : Erythrura gouldiae

Habitat :
Tropical open savannah woodland with a dense cover of sorghum grass from north central Queensland to Western Australia.

Diet :
Seeds of a variety of native grasses, particularly sorghum grass but also eats insects in the breeding season.

Size :
It grows to about 140mm.

Danger :

Cattle grazing, fire and illegal trapping have reduced their numbers and they have also been found to be infected with mites introduced to Australia by imported birds.
