"Mom, how old can we grow up to be?"
"Hmmm. Let me think. Your dad is 50 and Grandpa is 75 so 50 to 75 years!"
"One day I’m going to be that old!"
"Mom, where do we live?"
"Well, we like to live in the main channels of long rivers because the smaller rivers have more threats for us."
"Cool! I ought to meet some friends!"
"What is our average weight?"
"You are 1 pound and I’m 8 pounds."
"I’m going to be heavy when I grow up!"
"What is our average length?"
"Well, you’re only 5 inches now but you’ll be 38 inches long , just like Grandpa!"
"I’m going to be long!"
"What do we eat?"
"We eat invertebrates, that means animals without bones, like insects, crustaceans, mollusks and snails."
"I like snails the best!"
"That’s nice. Maybe we can have snails for dinner tonight."
"Mommy, when do you have babies?"
"I can lay eggs only between the last week of April and the first week of May. If things aren’t good where we spawn I won’t lay my eggs. I only spawn every 3-5 years."
"I hope things are right the next time you spawn so I can have more brothers and sisters."
"Where did our species come from?"
"Sturgeons were alive hundreds of millions of years ago in the time of the dinosaurs, Son."
"That’s neat! I’m going to like being a sturgeon. We were alive million of years ago! Cool!"
"Mommy, why are we endangered?"
"Because of fishermen and pollution."

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
You can clean up pollution. You can put up signs for no fishing and stop fishermen from fishing in spawning areas.
