Harlem Jr. High SchoolWild Animals
In Captivity| I am doing my report on "Wild
Animals In Captivity," and I am for it. I think that wild animals should be in
captivity because if they are out in the wild they could be hunted, ran over by a vehicle,
poisoned, or they could even lose their habitat due to fire set by humans. If any animal
gets hit by a vehicle and they are not killed instantly they will have help at the zoo if
that is where they are kept. When an animals gets hurt where it is being kept at like the
zoo then they will be taken care of almost immediately. In one article about Californian
Condors, it said, " there were 22 condors in 1982, now there are 120!!"
The reason the Condors population plunged so much in 1982 is because of shooting,
poisoning, power lines, and loss of habitat. If the condors are in the zoos they
wont be attacked by other animals who they are prey for. This is only one example of a
good reason why animals should be in captivity. In another paper, It said animals are GREAT for people because it gave them entertainment! I mean, who would want a world where animals were not in it, they almost have to be in captivity. Circuses are certainly a great place to go. You get to see all the beautiful animals do tricks. But, there is always an acception to all things and this acception is when the animals go to do a trick, they may get upset and hurt someone, but like I said that is a VERY rare occasion. 135 million people went to zoos in North America. Clearly people enjoy the animals in the zoo and crying for an entire ban of the zoos would be unrealistic and may lose many who would otherwise sympathize, the environmentalists and animal rights activists. Plus zoos are VERY educational and can help preserve the endangered species. The Jersey Zoo just off the coast of France is ran by the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust. It holds only endangered species and has a large emphasis on the reintroduction of animals into their natural domain. This is good for the animals because it helps them to NOT stay endangered, while releasing them to their natural home. So in conclusion Im going to say that animals should be kept in captivity so they wont be killed by hunters or other such people. They will have a chance to be cared for when they are ill or hurt. In this thought it is to be said that if animals are in captivity they will have better chances at staying alive then staying in the wild where anything can happen to them. They could be serverly hurt and the vets in the zoo or wherever they are at can get help right away. This is what and why I think animals should be in captivity, and I think it is for the better if they have someone right their for them. |
