Wood Frog

Description

Their size ranges from 1 3/8-3 1/4 inches. Their color is pink, tan, or dark brown with a light strip on upper jaw, and sometimes a light line down middle of back.

Habitat

They live in moist woodlands in eastern areas, open grasslands in western, and tundra in the far north.

Diet and Feeding Habits

They eat small insects such as: Bugs, flies, mosquitoes, and other small insects.

Breeding Habits and offspring

The wood frog is an explosive breeder. Swarms of parsley fertilized eggs within 1-2 days, then they disappear in the surrounding country.

Extinct and Population

This species is rare in Missouri. We don't know the exact population.

Significant Findings

Its voice is a series of short raspy quacks. It thrives better in cold weather. They also hide in the winter and are active during the day. The weather isn't appropriate for them to live in our climate that's why they're rare.
