1. What is the common name of the animal? Florida Panther 2. What is the scientific name? Felis concolor coryi 3. What is the animal's status? Endangered throughout its range. 4. What family does it belong to? The Florida Panther is in the Cat family. 5. What is this animal's habitat? Large remote tracts with adequate prey covers and reduce levels of disturbance. Habitat use highly diverse and varies from north to south. >From hardwood uplands to lower wetlands. 6. Where is this animal's habitat? In southern Florida, where approximately half of panther habitat is privately owned. 7. What is the range of this animal's habitat? The range is in southwest Florida. 8. Describe your animal (size, colors, shape, unusual traits*) The Florida Panther is a large, long-tailed cat with a great deal of color varation: pale brown or rusty upper part, dull white or buffy under parts; tail tip, back of ears, and sides of nose are dark brown or blackish. 9. What is the number known to exist of your animal? 30 to 50 individuals in the wild. 10. What is the average lifespan of your animal? The Florida Panther lifespan is 20 years. 11. What is the primary and secondary food of your animal? Dominated by white-tailed deer, wild hog, and in some areas raccoon. 12. Information on reproduction(how many young born at one time, how often?) Litter sizes of 1 to 4 kittens, and a breeding cycle of 2 years. 13. What threatens the life of this animal? (enemies-natural or unnatural, deforestation, pollution, competition, inbreeding, etc. Road kills on Florida's highways are a major cause of deaths among Florida Panthers. 14. If your animal migrates, what is the migration route? Florida panthers do not migrate. 15. What other ideas or programs would you like to see in your area to help protect the endangered animals? (Fund raising activities, public awareness*) I would like to see them help the Florida panther population grow, and keep them from going extinct.
