Eskimo Curlew

Common Name:
Shorebird and Tundra

Describe the animal:
The length is twelve inches long and the color of it is warm buff or pale cinnamon brown. Throat- white to pale buff.
Underparts -buffy cinnamon, breast intricately patterned.

Scientific name:
Numenius borealis.

Animal status:
Endangered 1967.

Family:
bird

Habitat location:
Variety of grasslands habitats.

Habitat range:
Migrates from breeding grounds in the Artic tundra through the North American prairies to wintering grounds on the Pampas grasslands.

Reproduction:
On the open Artic tundra the nest is found. It is a shallow depression in the ground.

Population numbers:
About 70 Eskimo Curlews have been seen in the last 50 years. They are thought to be very close to extinction.

Interesting fact:
Once in Nebraska it was reported that 50 acres of land were covered with flocks of Curlews.
