The American bull elk( male elk) can weigh up to 770 lb, and they stand 1.5 meters (5 feet) at the shoulder, they can be 2.4 meters long. Males have antlers that can span more then 1.5 meters (5 feet). A bull elk grows new antlers each year around May. Their coat is a grayish brown with a white patch on the rump. Cows (female elk) weigh less. Elk have been over hunted, there aren't very many left.
Elk eat, grass, herbs, shrubs, trees. In winter herds of elk feed in the mountains and some time they have to paw through 2 feet of snow. Elk are most active morning and evening.
