The Lynx

The Lynx
The lynx has been endangered in Colorado since 1972. In 1992, only one set of lynx footprints were found in Colorado. The lynxs scientific name is lynx canadensis. The lynx is a mammal and part of the cat family. Their habitat range is Alaska, part of northern United States and a few mountain areas in Colorado. In good weather, the lynx like to climb trees and lay on the limbs and stretch and sleep. The lynx have ruffs of hair on their face. They weigh 20 lbs. They have long legs. Lynx have little pieces of fur sticking behind their ears to help them hear snowshoe hares. The lynx have hair between their toes on their 4" paws, so their paws act like snowshoes. Their fur is light gray with dark spots and stripes. Their tails are short and stubby. The lynx hunt at night. They hunt snowshoe hares. When the lynx get really hungry they eat fox and deer. When the lynx breed, they live in
hollow trees and caves. They have 2 to 4 kittens in each
litter. The kittens look like cats. |
