The Leatherback Turtle
| My research report is on the Leatherback Turtle. It's
scientific name is dermockelys coriacea. The family it belongs to is reptiles. The status
of my animal is the leatherback was designated endangered in 1981. In my report there is
information to learn and discover. My report will teach you information about the
leatherback and so that you can learn more about it. The Leatherback turtle has an interesting appearance. It has strong long flippers. It's 2 meters in length. It weights more than 1100 pounds. It has a shell of bone covered with skin like leather. The Leatherback turtle lives in the sea and in the ocean. It live in Canada on the east coast between June and October. It can be in the tropical waters. The Leatherback has only one favourite food. It's favourite food is jellyfish. It eats fish seaweed sea urchins, squids, and mollusks. The Leather back turtle has several threats. People are a threat to it. Birds are a threat to it. Snakes are a threat. When people clear land or pollute the waters it gives them disease. The Leatherback has good interesting facts. It goes on land to lay eggs in dry sand. It dives really deep over 3000 feet. It grow over 7 feet long. It's throat is lined with backward pointing spines, which help it ingest slippery jellyfish. By Diandra
