The Spotted Owl

My research report is on spotted owls. The scientific name of a spotted owl is strix occidentalis caurina. The spotted owl belongs to the family of the birds. The status of the spotted owl is endangered. In my report you can find appearance, habitat, food threats, and interesting facts. You should read my report because its easy for kids and you can learn a lot on the spotted owl.
The spotted owl looks like some other owls. The appearance of the spotted owl is medium-sized round-head owl with large black eyes. The average weight of the make is 582 grams and the female is 637 grams. The upper parts of the spotted owl are brown, spotted with buff, except the top of the head and hind neck which is spotted with under parts that are whitish. The spotted owl is only found in one spot in Canada. In Canada spotted owls are found in old growth forests in southwestern British Columbia. All the spotted owls do not migrate in winter. The spotted owls nests in natural cavities in tress that includes uneven aged trees. A spotted owl looks for many old diseased or damages tress for nesting.
The spotted owl has many different foods that is could eat. Most spotted owls feed on small mammals such as flying squirrel, wood rat and deer mouse. It also eats small rodents, smaller owls, hares, mice and insects. The spotted owl also eats toads that are easy to find at night.
The spotted owl has many different threats. Some of the threats are made by people and some are different animals. The threats that are made by people are competition and scientific collecting, pesticides to control insects. That also lose their habitat from people and chemicals, pollutants, toxic pollutants, and urbanization. The threats that are natural are invasion of habitat by predators such as the great horned owl and the red tailed hawk. Also the common raven may destroy eggs.
The spotted owl is a very interesting bird and has many interesting facts. The spotted owl was designated endangered in 1986. There is information on the number of spotted owls in British Columbia. Owls probably mate for their life. A spotted owl's nest which is called clutches, contain 2 or 3 eggs. The spotted owl is protected by the British Columbia Wildlife Act.
