Ferruginous Hawk
| The name of the animal I am doing a research report on
is the ferruginous hawk. The scientific name of my animal is buteoregali. The family that
the ferruginous hawk belongs to is the bird family. In 1980 the ferruginous hawk was
designated threatened. In my report there is information about the ferriginous hawk's
food, interesting facts, appearance, threats and habitat. You can read it and get some
information about the ferriginous hawk and you can learn how to help this interesting
bird. The Ferriginous hawk is a very large hawk. It has round wing tips. It's cheeks are brown and it has dark brown spots. The hawk's tummy is white to blend into the sky. The Ferruginous hawk is a thick set bird with broad powerful wings. It is also very tall almost 3 feet. The Ferruginous hawk lives in many places but the most common is in trees. Some nests are found on the ground, grass, or bushes. Some are found on hills or in cut banks. Nests are found in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Ferruginous hawk eats a lot of food. 90 percent of it is gophers. It will also eat moles, mice and even white tailed jack rabbits. The habitat of the ferruginous hawk has become restricted because of farming. It is difficult for the ferruginous hawk to find food because animals are disappearing. The ferruginous hawk has lost many of it's nesting sites because of disturbance of humans. The ferruginous hawk is protected in Canada. The size of the population is a range of 500-1000 pairs. In Alberta, they are trying to kill the ferruginous hawk. By Ryan
