The Gelada Baboons
| This report is on the Gelada baboons. Its scientific name is the Theropithceus Gelada. It is usually found in rocks in the mountains of central Ethiopia. This animal is a mammal. The Gelada baboons has a bare red area on chest. It weighs 25 pounds,31in. Dog like brown face, with whiskers and mane. It has a lot of hair on body. Gelada babies are called Harems. All geladas eat the same food. Its primary foods are leaves, roots, and seeds of grasses. Its secondary foods are insects and vegetables. There are up to a dozen babies living today. The baboons protection is its sharp teeth for biting and scaring away. They are very long .Its enemies are mostly big meat eaters such as tigers, lions, and jaguars. There are 5 species left that are mainly African. Its endangered from Agriculture. It is distinguished from all other baboons by its nostrils. There nostrils open by the side of its nose. Its common name is the Gelada baboons. People should keep this animal alive. There are several hundred left. The Gelada baboon is threaten. |
